Creating a community: The story behind the Shooting Diaries App

Shooting Diaries is a brand-new mobile app designed to unite the British shooting community. The brainchild of CEO Jason Dent, an experienced country man and entrepreneur, the app started taking shape one quiet afternoon while Jason was doing some vermin control on a local farm. Sitting in a hide, he began to wonder how he could create a more efficient digital system for keeping the gamekeeper up to date with his progress over the last few months. It was this lightbulb moment that sparked the creation of the Shooting Diaries app. Jason explains:

“It was such an exciting moment when I was running this through in my head in the hide. The more I thought about it, I realised the huge potential. It could be the go-to mobile app for anyone who’s already passionate about shooting or wants to get into the sport. A place to share information with like-minded people, make new friends and build a bigger, stronger community.”

Always one to put ideas into action, Jason loaded up the quad, rushed home and started planning. Within days he was working with app development company Rex Global Ltd to make his vision a reality. From humble beginnings, the project snowballed into much more than a simple shooting diary. Jason expanded the concept, adding social media feeds, an in-app chat facility, an in-app explorer, Gun License renewal reminders and other useful features.

With a little help from friends, family and some faces from Instagram, Jason has created the most comprehensive, user-friendly and up-to-date mobile shooting app around.

A shooting app to shape our future

Jason’s lifelong devotion to his sport is the driving force behind the project:

“Hunting, shooting and other fieldsports are passions close to my heart and run deep in my family. They’re an important part of British tradition and conservation that I feel are increasingly threatened. It would break my heart if they were ever to be jeopardised.

Everyone who takes part in country sports knows that we sometimes face opposition and a lack of understanding about what we do. I believe this is our chance to shape our message and create a safer and more positive space where we can share our love of shooting in as responsible and ethical a way as possible.

If we want to see our kids and grandkids enjoying fieldsports as we do now, then let’s unite to protect and conserve our beloved sport. I hope that by joining the Shooting Diaries community, people can have fun, share knowledge and play an important part in preserving our legacy and that of generations before us. Together, I think we’ve got an unrivalled opportunity to create something special for us all – something for the future.”
